SPRINGFIELD: Issues with “ghost” medical insurance networks and inactive or “zombie” state boards and commissions surfaced during a recent audit review of Illinois Central Management Services. The bipartisan Legislative Audit Commission, meeting at the State Capitol, also reviewed audits for the State EPA and other agencies. State Senator Chapin Rose of Mahomet raised concerns about the impact of ghost insurance networks on state employees.

SPRINGFIELD: The Illinois Department of Corrections has begun scanning the mail of prison inmates throughout the state to reduce the risk of contraband entering correctional facilities. However, lawmakers expressed frustration over delays in the process and other issues within IDOC during a meeting of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, which coincided with the start of the fall veto session. The new emergency rule aims to prevent injuries to both inmates and staff, which have occurred in recent years due to contraband.

BLOOMINGTON: The State of Illinois has filed a lawsuit against State Farm Insurance, alleging the Bloomington-based company failed to comply with a regulatory examination of its national homeowners insurance business. The Illinois Attorney General’s Office announced the lawsuit as the Department of Insurance continues its investigation into State Farm’s policies and premiums, both in Illinois and nationwide.

CHICAGO: The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Chicago office announced the results of “Operation Summer Heat,” a four-week law enforcement sting across northern Illinois. The operation led to 166 arrests, 92 drug seizures, 34 illegal firearms confiscated, and the recovery and identification of eleven missing children. The FBI partnered with local agencies to carry out the successful operation.
