Former Illinois Department of Corrections officer, 27-year-old Lathan Lane of Fairfield has been sentenced to county jail time after pleading guilty to bringing drugs into a state prison.

Lane entered a guilty plea this past August to a Class-1 felony charge of being a prison official who brought cannabis into a penal institution, specifically the Lawrence Correctional Center near Sumner. The case against Lane began in May of last year, with sentencing held on October 9th.

As part of a plea agreement, Lane was placed on 48 months of probation and ordered to serve one year of periodic confinement—amounting to 52 weekends—in the Wayne County jail in Fairfield plus court costs.

Instead of serving his time in the Lawrence County Jail, Lane will complete his jail sentence in the Wayne County Jail.
