The West Salem Village Board of Trustees convened for a special session on October 15th to address insurance proposals, authorize critical repairs to the wastewater system, and express support for a local tree planting effort.

During the meeting, trustees reviewed insurance options presented by Blank’s Insurance and the Illinois Municipal League. Both agencies had submitted proposals earlier, outlining coverage for property, vehicles, equipment, and liability. The board decided to seek further clarification on several aspects before making a final decision, which is scheduled for the next board meeting on October 27th.

In other actions, the board approved a $16,959 bid from Staffer Pump & Supply to repair a village wastewater lift station, ensuring continued reliability of the system.

Board members also adopted a resolution supporting the Oak Savanna Tree Planting Project, a statewide collaboration between the Illinois Extension 4-H Foundation, the Association of Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and the Illinois Forestry Development Council. If selected, West Salem will receive 25 oak trees for planting at Four Corners Park.

The next regular Village Board meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 27th, at Village Hall.
