Clinton County Sheriff Dan Travous says investigators have a possible identity for human remains found on October 10th outside Centralia in unincorporated Clinton County. The lead came after an earlier news release about the discovery.
The remains were found by a local resident checking a deer stand near a field. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of death, but there is no indication of foul play. Testing of the remains will continue in the coming weeks to help the coroner confirm the identity and cause of death.
Sheriff Travous noted the remains do not appear to be connected to any known missing person cases in the area. Additional information will be released once identification and cause of death are confirmed.
Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to email detectives at sheriff@clintonco.illinois.gov.
