The McLeansboro City Council met Tuesday night, with the meeting highlighted by a 45-minute video conference with Retail Strategies, an Alabama-based company specializing in helping towns attract new businesses through data and analytics. Senior Portfolio Director Michael Warsaw and Retail Development Associate Jimmy Pritchett discussed their ongoing efforts to bring two pizza chains and a hardware store to the McLeansboro area, as well as strategies for working with local and regional business owners, landlords, and retailers. Retail Strategies will continue its partnership with McLeansboro to improve the community’s business climate.

In other business, council members unanimously approved renewing the city’s liability, workers compensation, and health insurance policies with ICRMT Insurance at a total cost of $259,276, and approved the city’s unemployment tax proposal.

The council authorized the purchase of a mobile radar speed sign from Radarsign of Marietta, Georgia, for the McLeansboro Police Department at a cost of $3,882. The effectiveness of the speed sign will be evaluated, and additional units may be considered if it proves successful in deterring speeding.

The city’s garbage contract, which expires on March 31, 2026, will be put out for bids.

Daniel Webb entered into a three-year lease for the city’s row crop at $1,020 per year.

The council conducted first readings of two ordinances: one amending McLeansboro’s net metering policy to update solar panel buy-back rates, and another revising sections of the 1916 city ordinance related to gaming and gambling houses to allow for video gaming and other changes. A first reading on updating the zoning code and expanding MR1 district access was tabled until next month as the ordinance was not yet prepared.

Regarding the Fire Station Rehabilitation Grant, the council authorized the solicitation of bids for the fire station project.

The Consent Agenda was approved, including a resolution allowing the Hamilton County Rotary Club’s Christmas Parade on December 6th from 5–6 p.m., and a TIF reimbursement of $2,481.19 to Wuebbels Repair, LLC.
