Two FDA Recalls

Reports say the Food and Drug Administration has issued two recalls in the past several days.

Cholesterol medication is being recalled over “failed dissolution specifications”.  The FDA says Ascend Laboratories issued the recall, suggesting that the drugs didn’t pass a solubility test or failed to dissolve at a standard rate.  The pharmaceutical company first initiated its recall in September, and in October the products were categorized under a “Class Two” recall, which means health officials believe the use of the drug “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences”.  The FDA did say consumers could generally continue taking the medicine unless the recalling company provides other instructions, but they are encouraged to speak with their doctor or pharmacist.

Also the FDA has issued a recall for Select California-grown peaches for potential listeria contamination.

The recall includes fresh white, yellow and “peppermint” peaches from Moonlight Companies which were sold at grocery stores nationwide, including Kroger and Trader Joe’s.  The fruit was sold individually and in multi-packs from September 16th through October 29th.  The FDA has warned that contracting listeria can cause death in young children, elderly people or those with compromised immune systems.  So far, no illness have been reported.
