Illinois Residents To Start Receiving Partial SNAP Benefits Today
Illinois SNAP customers are set to begin receiving partial November benefits. The Illinois Department of Human Services says anyone who was supposed to receive benefits November 1st through the 6th will begin receiving partial benefits today. This comes after a federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the Trump administration to fully fund the food assistance program by today. However, the Trump administration filed a notice of appeal in the case and decided to provide significantly reduced November SNAP benefits. The IDHS is awaiting further guidance from the federal government and the courts.
Federal Judge Issues Injunction On Use of Force By Immigration Agents In Chicago
A federal judge is issuing a sweeping injunction that places more permanent restrictions on the use of force by federal immigration agents in Chicago. Judge Sara Ellis extended restrictions put on area immigration enforcement through a temporary restraining order last month. The order limits agents use of tear gas and other riot control weapons. The order is the result of a lawsuit over the treatment of protesters and journalists. Ellis accused top government officials of lying in their testimony about threats that protesters posed, including U.S. Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino. The Department of Homeland Security says they will appeal the ruling.
Oldest Living Person In Illinois Dies At 113
A woman believed to have been the oldest living person in Illinois is dead. Wenonah Bish died this past Saturday at The Villas Senior Care Community in Sherman at the age of 113 years old. Bish was born in Springfield in 1912. She was cited by the Gerontology Research Group as being the fifth oldest-living person in the U.S.
