HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY – IHSA STATE MEET:
Both, the Fairfield Mules and Lady Mules Cross Country teams were in competition Saturday at the IHSA State Cross Country Meet at Detweiller Park in Peoria. It was the first time in school history that both the Boys and Girls squads qualified for State. The Mules runners finished 28th overall, while the Lady Mules team finished 30th overall. Boys team members include: Treyton Lewis, Skylar Bladel, Ashton King, Jarret Vaughan, Kanyen Lingafelter, Morgan Spina, and Vance Vanway. Lady Mules team members include: Emeri Sager, Jaycie Couch, Brianna Meeks, Adi Hickey, Remi Taylor, Gabby Zurliene, and Ellanie Vanway. Congratulations go out to Coach Justin Sanders on a successful season in what is his last year as Cross Country Coach.

(Champaign, IL) — The number-14 Illinois Fighting Illini men’s basketball team is still undefeated following a 113-70 rout over Florida Gulf Coast at State Farm Center on Friday. The Illini led by 32 points at halftime and still outscored FGCU by double digits the rest of the way. Kylan Boswell poured in 31 points in the victory, while Keaton Wagler chipped in with 22. Illinois improved to 2-and-0. The Illini take on number-11 Texas Tech tomorrow night.

(Undated) — The Chargers stymied the Steelers during a 25-10 win at So-Fi Stadium on Sunday Night Football. Earlier Sunday, the Colts beat the Falcons 31-25 in overtime in Berlin, Germany. The Ravens knocked off the Vikings 27-19, the Patriots beat the Bucs 28-23 in Tampa, and the Rams crushed the 49ers 42-26 in the Bay. Week 10 wraps up with the Eagles visiting the Packers on Monday Night Football.

(Inglewood, CA) — The Los Angeles Chargers stymied the Pittsburgh Steelers during a 25-10 win at So-Fi Stadium on Sunday Night Football. The Chargers gave up the first three points of the game before going on a 25-0 run. Los Angeles had a safety and three takeaways on defense, and they held Pittsburgh to under 225 yards of offense. Justin Herbert passed for 220 yards and a touchdown, and Ladd McConkey caught four passes for 107 yards and a score. The Chargers are in second place in the AFC West at 7-and-3. Aaron Rodgers passed for 161 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the loss. The Steelers still lead the AFC North at 5-and-4.

(Chicago, IL) — The Giants lost their rookie quarterback after a tough hit against the Bears. Jaxson Dart was ruled out with a concussion in the fourth quarter of New York’s loss in Chicago. Dart took a hard hit in the third quarter, and was taken to the blue medical tent before walking to the locker room. This is the fourth time Dart has been evaluated for a concussion since the preseason.

(Undated) — More details are coming out on a blockbuster trade in the NFL. ESPN reports the Micah Parsons deal involving the Packers and Cowboys included a “poison pill” condition which prevents the star pass rusher from playing for the Eagles in the immediate future. If Green Bay decides to trade Parsons to an NFC East team, then it would owe Dallas a first-round pick in 2028.

(Chevy Chase, MD) — Former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue is dead at the age of 84. Tagliabue passed away in Chevy Chase, Maryland from apparent heart failure complicated by Parkinson’s disease. He served as commissioner from 1989 until 2006 before being succeeded by current commissioner Roger Goodell. Tagliabue is survived by his wife Chandler, son Drew, and daughter Emily.

(Landover, MD) — President Trump took part in NFL Sunday. Trump arrived at Northwest Stadium in Maryland on Sunday to watch the Washington Commanders take on the Detroit Lions as part of the NFL’s “Salute to Service,” honoring military veterans. Trump read an oath for members of the military to recite as part of an on-field ceremony during a break in the game, along with sitting in the announcer’s booth during the third quarter. An ESPN report over the weekend says the President reportedly wants the Commanders to name the team’s new stadium after him. The visit marked the first time a president has gone to an NFL regular season game since Jimmy Carter did in 1978.
>>Basketball HOF’er Lenny Wilkens Dead
(Medina, WA) — Basketball Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens is dead at the age of 88. Wilkens was a nine-time All-Star during his playing days, twice leading the league in assists. As a head coach, he won the 1979 NBA title with the Seattle SuperSonics, and won a gold medal leading the 1996 US Olympic Team. He is one of only five men to be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as both player and coach. In 1996, Wilkens was named to the NBA 50th Anniversary Team, and in 2021 he was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. Wilkens held the record for most regular season coaching wins in NBA history until 2010, currently sitting at third all-time.
>>Bucks Add Victor Oladipo To G-League Team
(Milwaukee, WI) — The Bucks are adding a former All-Star to their squad. The team signed Victor Oladipo to its G-League affiliate on Sunday. The guard hasn’t played in the NBA since 2023 after he tore his left patellar tendon while playing for the Heat in the opening round of the playoffs. The 33-year-old averaged almost 11 points in 42 regular season games that year.
>>MLB Pitchers Indicted In Connection With Betting
(Cleveland, OH) — Cleveland Guardians pitchers Luis Ortiz and Emmanuel Clase have been indicted on charges related to a sports betting investigation. The two are believed to be involved in a scheme to intentionally throw balls during games so bettors could wager. Prosecutors say it started as early as May 2023. Ortiz has been arrested, but Clase is not currently in custody. The two were placed on leave by Major League Baseball this past summer as part of the investigation.

(Cabo San Lucas, Mexico) — Ben Griffin collected his third Tour victory after winning the World Wide Technology Championship in Cabo San Lucas. Griffin finished atop the leaderboard at 29 under par. Sami Valimaki and Chad Ramey tied for second at 27 under. Trevor Cone and Garrick Higgo were tied for fourth at 26 under par. Defending champ Austin Eckroat finished tied for 59th at 11 under.
