FEDERAL OFFICIALS INVESTIGATE INFANT BOTULISM OUTBREAK LINKED TO BYHEART FORMULA

By Mark Wells Nov 11, 2025 | 11:53 AM

Federal health officials are investigating a multi-state outbreak of infant botulism connected to ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula. The outbreak has resulted in 13 hospitalizations across ten states, including two cases in Illinois.

The recall affects two lots of the formula marked “use by December 1, 2026.” Both the FDA and CDC are working to determine the source of contamination and whether additional products are impacted.

While no deaths have been reported, officials caution that symptoms of infant botulism may take several weeks to appear and are urging parents to check formula packaging and discontinue use of recalled lots immediately.
