The government reopened after a record-breaking 43-day shutdown as a new funding package signed by the president restores operations across federal agencies and extends the farm bill through September 30th, 2026.

The legislation provides funding for the Agriculture Department and several other agencies through fiscal year 2026, while extending the 2018 farm bill for an additional term. Most other federal agencies receive continuing appropriations through January 30, ensuring government services resume with minimal disruption.

Key agricultural provisions include the reauthorization of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), which had expired with the 2018 farm bill, and the resumption of Farm Service Agency loan processing. The rollback of the shutdown means farmers will again have access to critical USDA programs and related services.

Illinois Farm Bureau President Brian Duncan praised the measure, noting relief for farmers who rely on USDA programs and the restoration of access to essential food assistance for millions of Americans. “This funding package ends the shutdown and secures the resources farmers and families depend on,” Duncan said.

Additional details include:

The funding covers USDA and other departments through FY 2026.

The CRP and other long-term programs are reauthorized under the extended farm bill.

Continued appropriations for most agencies until late January will help bridge any lingering gaps during the transition.

Agencies plan to issue guidance on program continuities and any operational changes resulting from the new funding.
