Harold “Leon” Beckel, 80, of Cisne, IL, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Clay County Hospital in Flora, IL.
Leon was born June 22, 1945, at home in Cisne, IL. to Leo and Faithie (Lowe) Beckel. He married Betty Belle (Tyree) Beckel September 19, 1965 in Cisne, Il. She preceded him in death October 28, 2021.
Leon worked for Morton Buildings in Fairfield, IL and Southern Illinois Lumber Company in Cisne, IL. After retirement he continued to do carpentry work for local people in the area. In his spare time, he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Leon is survived by his son Lowell Beckel of Fairfield, IL. one daughter Buffy (Donnie) Lovel of Herrin, IL. two grandchildren Keeley Shaye Gray of Herrin, IL, Jayden Reece Cambron of Marion, IL, two great grandchildren Jamison Cambron and Axel Cambron; his sister Coleen Howell of Dix, IL, two brothers Carrol (Judy) Beckel of Cisne, IL, and Harlan (Sherri) Beckel of Brownstown IL; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Judi (Tyree) and Xon Johnston; also surviving are several nieces and nephews
Leon was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Faithie Beckel, wife Betty Beckel, brother-in-law Ben (Judi) Tyree, Jr, three sisters in laws Martha Mason, Bernice Cralley and Ruth Johnston, one niece Michelle (Howell) Johnson, and one nephew Kelly Whitehead.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, for 11:00a.m. to 1p.m. at Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home in Cisne, IL.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 1:00pm. at Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cisne Cemetery.
Memorials in memory of Leon may be given to Feed My Sheep soup kitchen and will be accepted at the funeral home.
