By Mark Wells Nov 29, 2025 | 6:28 AM

The NationalWeather Service has placed Wayne, Jefferson, Edwards and Wabsah counties in southern Illinois under a Winter Weather Advisory from 6 a.m. today until midnight tonight.   They say a system is expected to move through the area today that could drop some snowfall, especially in the morning hours, before transitioning to rain later in the afternoon.  A couple of inches of snowfall is a possibility, which could slick up a few area roadways.

Precipitation should come to an end tonight, followed by colder weather for a few days.  Another system may bring some chances for snow later Monday night and Tuesday, although forecasters are not giving indications currently of any major snowfall.  Another system is also possible by the end of next week.

Extended forecasts running through December 12th are indicating below normal temperatures expected to continue, with above normal precipitation in the six to ten day outlook, and near normal in the 8 to 14 day outlook.

Area rivers remain fairly steady.  The Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 6.56 feet as of this morning, below the 17-foot flood stage.  At Clay City the reading is 5.14 feet.  Flood stage is 18 feet.  At Carmi the river is at 4.34 feet.  Flood stage is 27 feet.  The Skillet Fork at Wayne City is at 5.17 feet.  Flood stage is 15 feet.  The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 4.11 feet.  Flood stage is 19 feet.  Bonpas Creek at Browns reads 2.03 feet.
