As of Wednesday, the Hunters Feeding Illinois program has received 40 deer donations, resulting in 1,276 pounds of venison—enough for an estimated 5,104 servings for those in need.
The program extends a huge thank you to its partnering processors, Charlie’s Deer Processing and Smokehouse in Bridgeport and Legacy Meats in Sumner for their vital role in processing the donated deer. Several generous monetary donations have also supported the program, covering processing costs and ensuring continued operations throughout the upcoming deer hunting seasons.
Organizers say they are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support from local processors, donors, and deer hunters. Their combined efforts are making a meaningful impact on food insecurity in Lawrence, Richland, and Wabash counties.
