The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a major recall of more than one million bags of shredded cheese, following concerns that the products may contain metal fragments. The recall affects shredded cheese produced by Great Lakes Cheese Co. and sold under several popular brands at major retailers.
The affected cheese products were distributed at Walmart stores as the Great Value brand, Target as the Good & Gather brand, Aldi as the Happy Farms brand, and at additional retail locations. The recalled cheese was sold in 31 states and Puerto Rico, with sell-by dates ranging from January 2026 through March 2026.
Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators and avoid consuming any of the recalled products. The FDA recommends returning the cheese to the place of purchase for a full refund. No injuries have been reported so far.
