Fairfield Rural Fire Department, Fairfield City Fire Department, Wayne County Ambulance Personnel, and Wayne County Sheriff’s Department responded to a structure fire Tuesday afternoon at approximately 4:43 PM at 214 South Washington St in Geff.
The incident involved a single-story residence owned by the late Gerald Horn. According to Fairfield Rural Fire Chief, David Vaughan, the home is a rental property but was currently vacant at the time of the fire.
The fire was contained to the back room of the house and was brought under control by about 5:15 PM. The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
Firefighters cleared the scene just before 7:00 PM Tuesday night.
