AREA SPORTS RESULTS FROM THURSDAY:
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS WRESTLING:
On Thursday, the Fairfield Mules Boys Wrestling team traveled to Carmi-White County for their first in-conference wrestling meet of the season. The Mules fell to the Bulldogs by a score of 47-24 but did pick up 5 victories on the night. Carter Poole defeated Dylan Combs by pinfall at 106 lbs. Vance Vanway defeated Cameron Winter by pinfall at 144 lbs. Corbyn Griffith picked up a forfeit win at 157 lbs. Grant Jennette beat Hayden White by a 4-2 decision at 190 lbs. and Hayden Felowitz defeated Laeden Vargas at 285 lbs. with a 10-3 decision. The Mules wrestling squad will be back in action Monday night in a tri-match with Paris and Oblong at Oblong.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL:
The Fairfield Lady Mules Basketball team was in action Thursday night at the Mule Barn versus cross-county rival Wayne City. The Lady Mules put up a dominating performance beating the Lady Indians by a score of 62-25. The Lady Mules were led in scoring by Mabrey Foster with 19 points and Bentli Belva with 12 points. The Lady Mules will be back in action at the Mule Barn on Monday vs. Eldorado.

(Champaign, IL) — The number-13 Illinois Fighting Illini go for their third win in a row when they host number-22 Nebraska at State Farm Center tomorrow. (Undated) — Week 15 of the NFL season opened with a bang as the Falcons walked off with a 29-28 win over the Buccaneers. The playoff picture will continue to take shape on Sunday. (Pittsburgh, PA) — The Steelers could be without their top pass rusher in Week 15. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Thursday that linebacker TJ Watt stayed overnight in the hospital with a lung situation. Watt was experiencing some discomfort in his lung when he was at the facility on Wednesday, and has been undergoing tests. A statement said the team will provide more updates at the “appropriate time.” Pittsburgh hosts the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football.

(Owings Mills, MD) — The Ravens locked up a key defender. Baltimore signed defensive lineman Travis Jones to a three-year, $40.5 million contract on Thursday. The deal allowed the sides to avoid a hearing for a grievance the NFLPA filed on Jones’ behalf over his contract status. Jones did not report to training camp on-time, which prevented him from accruing a full year of service. Jones has 34 total tackles and one-and-a-half sacks this season.

>>Texans Minority Owner Javier Loya Suspended, Fined $500K

(Undated) — The NFL has handed down its punishment to Houston Texans minority owner Javier Loya for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Loya has been suspended indefinitely and fined 500-thousand-dollars after a being charged with serious offenses in 2023. The co-founder of OTC Global Holdings was charged with one count of first-degree rape, five counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of third-degree sexual abuse in Kentucky. Last year, Loya accepted a misdemeanor charge of harassment with intent to annoy and had the seven sexual assault charges dropped. He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement no earlier than June 2026.

(Las Vegas, NV) — The NBA Cup semifinals tip-off in Las Vegas on Saturday. The doubleheader begins with the Knicks taking on the Orlando Magic in the East semifinal at T-Mobile Arena. The Knicks beat the Raptors 117-101 in the quarterfinals Tuesday, while the Magic prevailed 117-108 over the Miami Heat. That game will be followed with the defending NBA champion Thunder facing the Spurs. OKC throttled the Phoenix Suns 138-89 in the quarterfinals Wednesday, while the Spurs downed the Lakers 132-119. The winners of each game will advance to play in the NBA Cup Championship on Tuesday.

(Undated) — The injuries continue to mount for the Grizzlies. The team announced that center Zach Edey will be evaluated in four weeks after he sustained a stress reaction in his left ankle, which was surgically repaired over the offseason. Edey is averaging 13.6 points, 11.1 rebounds and one-point-nine assists in 11 games this season.

>>Braves Sign Robert Suarez To Three-Year Deal

(Undated) — The Braves are adding a proven arm to their bullpen. Atlanta is signing closer Robert Suarez to a three-year, 45-million-dollar contract. Suarez led the National League with 40 saves in 45 chances this past season while suiting up for the San Diego Padres. He became a free agent in early November after opting out of eight-million-dollar options for 2026 and 2027. The two-time All-Star posted a 2.87 ERA and led the majors with 76 saves over the past two seasons.

>>Cubs Add Two Relievers

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Cubs are adding to their bullpen. The team signed relievers Hoby Milner and Collin Snider to contracts yesterday. Milner spent last season with Texas and was 3-and-4 with a 3.84 ERA in 73 games. Meanwhile, Snider was 2-and-1 with a 5.47 ERA in 24 games with the Mariners.

(Undated) — College bowl season kicks off this weekend. Washington and Boise State will kick things off with the LA Bowl on Saturday. The Huskies are 4-and-2 all-time against the Broncos and 1-and-1 in postseason games. Also on Saturday, Army and Navy will renew their rivalry in Baltimore. The Midshipmen lead the all-time series 63-55-and-7 over the Black Knights. >>Former Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Arrested Following Firing

(Ann Arbor, MI) — Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is set to appear in court for arraignment today. That’s according to the Pittsfield Township Police Department, although it’s unclear what exact charges he faces. Michigan fired Moore over an alleged inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Athletic Director Warde Manuel said “credible evidence” was found following an internal investigation

>>Mammoth F Cooley Out Eight Weeks

(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah Mammoth will be without a key forward for the foreseeable future. Logan Cooley will miss at least eight weeks with a lower-body injury, general manager Bill Armstrong announced on Thursday. Cooley was injured December 5th when he slid into the net during Utah’s game against the Vancouver Canucks. The 21-year-old leads the team with 14 goals so far this season.
