Since 2013, Safe Haven Women’s Shelter of Mt. Carmel has provided hope, healing, and new beginnings for homeless women and children across Wabash, Edwards, Lawrence, Wayne, and White Counties in Illinois, as well as Gibson County in Indiana. The privately funded, Christian-based shelter relies solely on donations from community members, churches, and neighbors, with no government funding. Safe Haven has assisted 282 homeless women and their children during their years in this ministry. In October, the shelter had two residents along with a newborn and a toddler find permanent housing. Safe Haven is now facing a crisis. As the demand for shelter and services has grown and volunteer support has declined, the shelter has had to hire staff, straining its limited resources. Without immediate financial support, Safe Haven will be forced to close, leaving vulnerable women and children without a safe place to turn.
Community members are urged to make a financial contribution—no amount is too small. Donations directly support shelter, food, care, and guidance for women and children working to rebuild their lives.
