HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL:
The FCHS Lady Mules Basketball team was in action Monday at the Mule Barn against conference foe the Eldorado Lady Eagles. The Lady Mules jumped out to a lead early and never looked back, pulling away for an eventual 67-15 victory. The Lady Mules are now 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference. They will be back in action again on Thursday at Olney.

The St. Louis Blues surrendered three goals in the second period during a 5-2 loss to the Nashville Predators at Enterprise Center. The game was tied at one before the Preds’ rally. Dalibor Dvorsky scored twice in the losing effort. St. Louis is in seventh place in the Central Division with 31 points. The Blues host Winnipeg tomorrow night. The St. Louis Blues will be without one of their top forwards for over a month. The team placed Dylan Holloway on injured reserve yesterday because of a right ankle injury. Holloway will be re-evaluated in six weeks. The 24-year-old has eight goals and nine assists in 33 games this season. Alexey Toropchenko was activated from injured reserve in a corresponding move.

The Chicago Blackhawks aim to avoid a third loss in a row when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena tonight. The Hawks are coming off a 4-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings at home on Saturday. Chicago is tied for fifth place in the Central Division with 32 points. Tonight’s game starts at 6:00PM. In other team news, the Blackhawks placed Connor Bedard on injured reserve yesterday.

(Champaign, IL) — Illinois football is mourning the passing of former coach Mike White. White died Sunday at the age of 89. He was the head coach of the Fighting Illini from 1980 to 1987, guiding them to a 47-41-and-three record. White led Illinois to three bowl games, including the 1984 Rose Bowl game after a 10-and-one record in the 1983 regular season. He was named the Walter Camp Coach of the Year and Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1983.

(Undated) — Keaton Wagler is earning recognition in the Big Ten. The Illinois guard was named the conference’s Freshman of the Week yesterday. Wagler averaged 21 points and seven-and-a-half assists per game as the Illini went 1-and-1 last week. The number-18 Illini go up against Mizzou next Monday.

(Bloomington, IN) — Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti is adding another accolade to his shelf. Cignetti was named the American Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year on Monday. The Hoosiers are 13-and-0 after winning the Big Ten title, and earned the number one seed in the College Football Playoff. Indiana will play in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.

(Undated) — The Steelers finished off Week 15 of the NFL season with a key win on Monday Night Football. The AFC North leaders increased their modest first-place margin following a 28-15 win over the Dolphins from Pittsburgh. Sunday featured a pair of other division leaders clinching playoff spots after the Broncos pulverized the Packers and the Rams lit up the Lions. LA kicks off Week 16 in a Thursday Night Football showdown against the Seahawks from Seattle. Both teams are 11-and-3 with the Rams holding a tiebreaker advantage for the top spot in the NFC West.

(Kansas City, MO) — The Chiefs are counting their blessing after a disastrous Week 15. Head coach Andy Reid said that quarterback Patrick Mahomes did not suffer any major damage to other ligaments after tearing his ACL against the Chargers. Mahomes is heading to Dallas to get a second opinion on his knee from the Cowboys’ head team physician, and is expected to have surgery later this week. Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew is likely to start their final three games.

According to multiple outlets, an MRI confirmed that Parsons suffered an ACL tear during Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos. Parsons has 41 total tackles, 12-and-a-half sacks and two forced fumbles this season, his first with Green Bay. The team acquired him in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys before the season and signed him to a four-year, $188 million contract extension.

(Ashburn, VA) — Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels’ season is over. Washington coach Dan Quinn told reporters Monday that Daniels is being shut down after he aggravated his dislocated left elbow during the team’s December 7th loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Daniels started just seven games this season, throwing for 1,262 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. Marcus Mariota will continue as the Commanders’ signal caller through the rest of the year.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Colts are sticking with the wily vet under center. Head coach Shane Steichen confirmed Monday that Philip Rivers will start against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16 on Monday Night Football. Rivers managed to keep the Colts close in their loss to the Seahawks after playing in the NFL for the first time since the 2020 season. Indianapolis is outside the AFC playoff picture after falling to 8-and-6.

Adams has caught 60 passes for 789 yards and a league-best 14 touchdowns this season, his first with the team.

(Florham Park, NJ) — The Jets made a change on defense. Steve Wilks has been fired after just 14 games into his tenure as the Green and White’s defensive coordinator. New York has only recorded two takeaways this season, and are tied with the 49ers for the longest streak in NFL history without an interception at 14 games.

(Las Vegas, NV) — The third annual in-season tournament comes to a close when the Knicks take on the Spurs in the NBA Cup Championship from Las Vegas on Tuesday. New York advanced to the title game after throttling Orlando 132-120 in the semifinals. San Antonio is in the final after squeaking out a 111-109 win over Oklahoma City in the semis. Both teams are hot with the Spurs on a three-game and the Knicks on a five-game winning streak.

(Philadelphia, PA) — The Phillies are adding a proven power bat. ESPN reports the team signed Adolis Garcia to a one-year, 10-million-dollar deal on Monday. The Rangers chose not to tender the free agent, who is expected to replace Nick Castellanos in the outfield for Philly. Garcia is a two-time All-Star but failed to reach 20 home runs last season for the first time in his career.

Nebraska took the biggest leap after jumping seven spots to number 15. Illinois suffered the biggest drop after falling five spots to number 18.
