HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL:
On Thursday, the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association announced the rosters for 52nd Annual Illinois High School Shriners All-Star Game. FCHS football player Jayden Wilson has been selected to play in the game which will be held on June 21st, 2026 at Illinois Wesleyan University.

HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING:
On Thursday night, the Fairfield Mules Wrestling team hosted conference rival Carmi-White County at the Mule Barn. The Mules fell to the Bulldogs 48-30 but did pick up 6 victories on the night. Carter Poole earned a 20-12 Decision at 106 lbs., Lathan Craft picked up a Forfeit victory at 120 lbs., Jedd Wellen got a Pinfall win at 126 lbs., Vance Vanway earned a 17-2 Technical Fall win at 144 lbs., Grant Jennette got a 5-0 Decision at 190 lbs., and Hayden Felowitz got a Forfeit victory at 285 lbs.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL:
The Lady Mules Basketball team was on the road Thursday night versus the always tough Olney Lady Tigers. The Lady Mules fell to the Lady Tigers by a score of 62-53. Fairfield was led in scoring by Mabrey Foster with 17 points and Bentli Belva with 11 points. The Lady Mules JV squad picked up a 50-29 victory earlier in the evening. The Lady Mules will be back in action tonight at Casey-Westfield.

The St. Louis Blues picked up a point during a 2-1 overtime loss to the New York Rangers at Enterprise Center. JT Miller scored the game-winning goal for New York in the third minute of OT. Jonatan Berggren scored the only Blues goal of the game. St. Louis is in fifth place in the Central Division with 34 points. The Blues visit the Panthers tomorrow.

Montreal Canadiens 4, Chicago Blackhawks 1
The Chicago Blackhawks surrendered three goals in the third period during a 4-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre. Frank Nazar gave Chicago an early lead with a first-period goal, but Montreal scored four unanswered goals to end the game. The Hawks are tied for sixth place in the Central Division with 32 points. Chicago is at Ottawa tomorrow.

(Frisco, TX) — A major member of the Cowboys’ defense is facing surgery on his left foot for the second time in the last two years. ESPN is reporting that Dallas cornerback DaRon Bland is likely to end up on injured reserve and is seeking a second opinion on his injured foot. The 26-year-old sat out 10 games during the 2024 season after having an operation on his fifth metatarsal during training camp. Bland signed a four-year extension worth 92-million dollars and included a 22-million dollar signing bonus this past summer. He has totaled 73 tackles and one interception in 12 games played this season.

(Jacksonville, FL) — The Jaguars are rewarding their newest major offensive contributor with a new contract. ESPN is reporting that Jacksonville is inking wide receiver Jakobi Meyers to a three-year extension worth 60-million dollars. The deal includes 40-million dollars guaranteed and ties him to the team through the 2028 season. The Jags sent 2026 fourth- and sixth-round picks to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for Meyers at the deadline in early November. The 29-year-old has 27 catches for 355 yards and three touchdowns in six games with Jacksonville.

(Undated) — The College Football Playoff will get underway this weekend with four first round games. The action begins Friday as number eight seed Oklahoma hosts ninth-seeded Alabama in a regular season rematch. The Sooners beat the Crimson Tide 23-21 in November. Seventh-seeded Texas A&M will host Miami in Saturday’s first game. This is the first playoff appearance for both the Aggies and the Hurricanes. Sixth-seeded Ole Miss will host number 11 seed Tulane. The slate will conclude with fifth-seeded Oregon hosting 12th-seeded James Madison. The Ducks are in the field for the third time, while the Dukes are making their first appearance in the playoffs.

(Bloomington, IN) — The Indiana Hoosiers football team is locking down its offensive coordinator. The program signed Mike Shanahan to a three-year contract extension yesterday. The contract will keep Shanahan in Bloomington through the 2028 season. Shanahan has been on Curt Cignetti’s coaching staff at all of his stops dating back to 2016. The number-one Hoosiers have a bye this week and will take on the winner of tonight’s game between Alabama and Oklahoma in the CFP Quarterfinals on New Year’s Day.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Basketball Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett is making a comeback to the Minnesota Timberwolves as a team ambassador. Garnett is reuniting with the Timberwolves and the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx in a new, all-encompassing role involving business, community efforts and content development. Garnett had been distant from the Wolves organization since his playing career ended in 2016 due to a fallout with the team’s previous owner Glen Taylor, and he has reportedly built a rapport with the new owners Marc Lore and baseball legend Alex Rodriguez. Meanwhile, the team will retire his number 21 jersey at a later date.

(Oklahoma City, OK) — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 122-101 win over the Los Angeles Clippers at the Paycom Center. Gilgeous-Alexander scored a game-high 32 points to help the Thunder avoid a second straight loss. Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams combined for 42 points as the Thunder improved to 25-and-2.

(Statesville, NC) — NASCAR driver Greg Biffle has died in a plane crash at a North Carolina airport. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says Biffle was among the seven people killed when his private jet burst into flames when landing at Statesville Regional Airport, around 50 miles north of Charlotte. Biffle’s family was also among the seven killed. Biffle was a Hall of Fame nominee for the stock car series and he drove for 18 years at the top of the sport, also picked by NASCAR as one of its top 75 drivers in history.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago White Sox are bringing in some help in the outfield. The team traded for Rays outfielder Tristan Peters yesterday. The Southsiders are sending Tampa Bay cash or a player-to-be-named-later to complete the deal. Peters appeared in four games with the Rays last season and went hitless in 12 at-bats.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Cubs are adding some depth at first base. The Northsiders inked Tyler Austin to a one-year deal worth 1.25-million dollars yesterday. Austin spent four seasons in the MLB between 2016 and 2019 before playing with Yokohama in the NPB. The 34-year-old hit .280 with 12 home runs and 31 RBI’s in 72 games in Japan last season.
