Eldorado Fire Chief Mike McKinnies has confirmed that no one was injured in a fire that broke out Sunday afternoon at a local restaurant in Eldorado.
Fire crews were called to Los Reyes Mexican Restaurant on U.S. 45 shortly before 2 p.m. At the time of the fire, patrons were inside the restaurant. The fire reportedly began on the exterior of the building, prompting an immediate evacuation.
Firefighters arrived quickly, but the blaze spread into the interior of the restaurant, resulting in major smoke damage throughout the dining area and fire damage in the kitchen. Chief McKinnies said the restaurant has been deemed a total loss.
Once the fire was brought under control, the building was secured and the Illinois State Fire Marshal was requested to investigate. The Eldorado Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Harrisburg Fire Department, with the Galatia Fire Department providing mutual aid.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
