NEAR-RECORD WARMTH CONTINUES THROUGH WEEKEND BEFORE SHARP COOL-DOWN

The National Weather Service in Paducah reports near-record high temperatures will continue across the region through the weekend, with many locations reaching the upper 60s and possibly touching 70 degrees each day.

The unseasonably warm conditions are being driven by persistent southerly winds, which are also bringing increased cloud cover along with periods of drizzle or light rain, particularly in northern portions of the area.

A strong cold front is expected to move through the region Sunday night, bringing an end to the warm stretch. Rain and a few thunderstorms are forecast ahead of the front on Sunday.

Behind the front, temperatures will drop sharply. Early next week, daytime highs are expected to struggle to reach freezing, while overnight lows could fall into the upper teens to lower 20s.
