Jefferson Fire officials report that an early Saturday morning fire at a home in Bonnie was confined to wiring above the kitchen ceiling.
Residents Jeff Axe and another occupant at 455 West Allen were awakened by their dog and soon detected the smell of smoke. Both evacuated the home and called the fire department.
Firefighters arrived quickly and were able to contain the fire to an electrical issue before it spread further. Mt. Vernon City and Benton fire departments were called for mutual aid, while Wayne City and Kell fire crews stood by at the Jefferson Fire Station in case another fire occurred.
The fire call was received at 2:27 a.m. Saturday, and firefighters remained on the scene for about an hour.
