SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, has received the prestigious American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2025. The hospital is one of only 323 facilities nationwide to earn this honor.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 800,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. Heart attacks, which occur when a blood clot blocks blood flow in a coronary artery, require swift medical intervention. Recommended treatment guidelines include administering aspirin upon arrival and discharge, restoring blood flow quickly, providing smoking cessation counseling, and offering cardiac rehabilitation, among other measures.

The Platinum Performance Achievement Award recognizes SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital’s dedication and success in delivering an elevated standard of care for heart attack patients. To qualify for the award, the hospital demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain – MI Registry over two consecutive years (2023 and 2024) and excelled in meeting specific quality performance measures.

Participation in the registry engages hospitals in a continuous quality improvement process, utilizing data to enhance adherence to established guidelines and improve the overall care of heart attack patients. The Chest Pain – MI Registry helps health care providers consistently follow the latest, evidence-based guidelines and sets a national standard for the quality, safety, and outcomes of care for those with coronary artery disease, especially high-risk heart attack patients.
