Motorists in Illinois are being reminded of a change in what is known as Scott’s Law. The law has previously been in place but has been expanded.
The new law requires drivers to move over for pedestrians, emergency responders, construction crews, as well as tow trucks. The goal of the law is to boost safety for those working or stopped along the side of roadways.
A first offense violation of the law carries a minimum fine of $200 and $750 for a second offense. Those penalties can be increased depending on certain circumstances.
