​IDENTITY RELEASED IN INA TRUCK STOP DEATH INVESTIGATION

Authorities have released the identity of a man found unresponsive in a vehicle at the Speedway Truck Stop in Ina last Friday.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched at approximately 5:19 p.m. on Friday, January 2nd to a report of an unresponsive male in a vehicle at the business. Upon arrival, deputies located 34-year-old John D. Nickerson of Williston, North Dakota, inside a 1996 GMC Suburban parked at the truck stop. Emergency medical personnel were already on scene and advised that Nickerson was deceased.

Sheriff’s Office detectives, Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse, and Illinois State Police crime scene technicians responded to assist with the investigation. Coroner Hayse pronounced Nickerson dead at the scene.

The death remains under investigation, and an autopsy has been ordered. Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact Detective Captain Jeremy Wilton at 618-244-8004.
