MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SUNDAY MORNING CRASH SOUTHEAST OF FAIRFIELD

A motorist was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident Sunday morning just southeast of Fairfield.

Fairfield Rural Fire, Wayne County Ambulance, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the scene just after 11:30 a.m. at 2006 County Road 815N.

According to Fairfield Rural Fire Chief David Vaughan, a truck ran off the roadway and into the woods. The male occupant, believed to be from the Albion area, was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by rescue crews.

The victim was airlifted from the scene by AirEvac out of Mt. Vernon to a hospital in Evansville for treatment of serious injuries.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
