HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL:
On Saturday, the Fairfield Mules Basketball team was on the road versus the Benton Rangers. The Mules fell to the Rangers by a score of 58-44. Fairfield was led in scoring by Jake Easton with 13 points. The Mules also dropped the JV contest by a score of 47-21. Harv Keyser led the Mules in scoring with 11 points. Fairfield will be back in action again on Tuesday on the road versus Olney.

HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING:
On Friday and Saturday, the Mules and Lady Mules Wrestling teams competed at the 30-team Murdale Tournament at Carbondale. On the Boys side, the Mules had 4 wrestlers place in the top 15: Carter Poole 10th at 106 lbs., Grant Jennette 10th at 190 lbs., Hayden Felowitz 12th at 285 lbs., and Vance Vanway 15th at 144 lbs. On the Girls side, the Lady Mules’ Remi Taylor finished 4th place at 105 lbs. and earned medal honors.

 

HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION CHEERLEADING:
The Fairfield Mules Competition Cheer Squad competed Saturday at the ICCA State Championships in Springfield. Fairfield finished 4th out of 24 teams in the 1A Small Varsity Game Day Division. They will next be in action next Saturday at Carmi’s Cheering for a Cure.

The Bulls snapped a three-game losing streak with a 125-107 win over the Dallas Mavericks at United Center on Saturday. The Bulls led by as many as 27 points in the victory. Coby White led the way with 22 points, while Ayo Dosunmu chipped in with 20 off the bench. Chicago is in tenth place in the Eastern Conference at 18-and-20. The Bulls visit the Rockets tomorrow night.

(Las Vegas, NV) — The Blues are on a three-game losing streak following a 4-2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday. The Blues surrendered two goals in the second period and trailed the rest of the way. Jake Neighbours and Robert Thomas both scored in the losing effort. St. Louis is in seventh place in the Central Division with 42 points. The Blues host the Hurricanes tomorrow night.

(St. Louis, MO) — The Blues are locking down one of their top defensemen. The Blues signed Philip Broberg to a six-year extension worth 48-million dollars over the weekend. Broberg has spent the last two seasons with St. Louis. He has two goals and 13 assists in 46 games this year. Broberg was injured hours after signing the extension on Saturday.

Blackhawks Blank Predators

(Nashville, TN) — Drew Commesso stood on his head as the Blackhawks shut out the Nashville Predators 3-0 at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday. Commesso earned his first NHL win by stopping all 36 shots that he faced. Tyler Bertuzzi, Nick Lardis, and Ryan Greene all lit the lamp in the victory. The Hawks are in sixth place in the Central Division with 45 points. They host Edmonton tonight.

The number-16 Illinois Fighting Illini are on a five-game winning streak following a 75-69 win over number-19 Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Keaton Wagler poured in 19 points in the victory, while Kylan Boswell and Andrej Stojakovic each finished with 17. The Illini improved to 4-and-1 in Big Ten play and 13-and-3 overall. They visit Northwestern on Wednesday night.

(Undated) — A new Super Bowl champion will be crowned this season. The 49ers upset the defending champion Eagles 23-19 in the Wild Card round from Philly. San Fran visits Seattle in the Divisional round. Meanwhile, the Bills came-from-behind to beat the Jaguars 27-24 from Jacksonville and advanced for the sixth straight season. They’ll square off against the Broncos in Denver. The Patriots are back in the Divisional round for the first time since 2018 after silencing the Chargers 16-3 from Foxboro. The Wild Card round wraps up on Monday Night Football when Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers duel CJ Stroud’s Texans from Pittsburgh. The winner will play New England in the next round.

(Undated) — The 49ers will be without their star tight end for the rest of the season. George Kittle suffered a torn right Achilles during the team’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The injury occurred during the second quarter when Kittle made a six-yard catch and attempted to turn upfield. The 32-year-old will miss the remainder of this season along with most, if not all, of the 2026 campaign. Kittle had 57 catches for 628 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games during the regular season.

(Foxborough, MA) — The New England Patriots put together a dominant performance to knock off the Los Angeles Chargers 16-3 in the AFC Wild Card Round at Gillette Stadium. Drake Maye won his playoff debut after throwing for 268 yards, one touchdown and an interception. He also led the team with 66 rushing yards. Hunter Henry scored the game’s lone touchdown on a 28-yard reception in the fourth quarter. The Pats will play the winner of Monday’s matchup between the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers. LA quarterback Justin Herbert passed for 159 yards and rushed for a team-high 57 yards in the season-ending loss. The Chargers have not won a playoff game since the 2018 season.

Brock Purdy tossed the go-ahead touchdown to Christian McCaffrey with about three minutes left in regulation. San Fran will head to Seattle to battle the Seahawks in the Divisional round. AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith committed key drops late in the game for Philly, which has lost in the Wild Card round every other year since 2019.

(Undated) — The Mavericks are dealing with a major injury blow. ESPN reports the Dallas forward Anthony Davis has ligament damage in his left hand and may require surgery that would sideline him for several months. Davis was injured during the team’s loss to the Utah Jazz last Thursday. He will reportedly get a second opinion to determine whether surgery is necessary. If he chooses to not undergo surgery, the 32-year-old is expected to miss at least six weeks.

(Portland, OR) — The Knicks got balanced scoring in a 123-114 win over the Trail Blazers from Portland. Jalen Brunson led all players with 26 points. OG Anunoby chipped in with 24 points as every member of the starting lineup reached double-figures. New York has won two of its last three games. Deni Avdija [[ AHV-dee-uh ]] sunk 25 points before getting hurt for Portland, which had a five-game winning streak come to an abrupt end.

(Memphis, TN) — The Grizzlies have won back-to-back games after taking down the Nets 103-98 from Memphis. Cedric Coward led all scorers with 21 points. Jock Landale added 16 points and came within one rebound of recording a double-double. Noah Clowney led the starters with 17 points for Brooklyn. Tyrese Martin matched him with 17 points off the bench as the Nets have dropped three straight.

(St. Louis, MO) — The St. Louis Cardinals are bolstering their bullpen. The team signed reliever Ryne Stanek to a one-year deal worth three-and-a-half million dollars over the weekend. The contract includes a club option for the 2027 season. Stanek spent last season with the Mets. He was 4-and-6 with a 5.30 ERA and three saves in 65 appearances in 2025.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Cubs made a massive move over the weekend. The team signed superstar third baseman Alex Bregman to a five-year deal worth 175-million dollars on Saturday. Bregman has three career All-Star appearances, and he spent last season with the Boston Red Sox. He hit .273 with 18 home runs and 62 RBI’s in 114 games with Boston.

>>Bruins Shut Out Penguins

(Boston, MA) — The Bruins earned their first shutout of the season after topping the Penguins 1-0 at TD Garden. Viktor Arvidsson was the only player to find the back of the net after scoring his ninth goal of the year. Joonas Korpisalo turned aside all 27 shots he faced. Boston now has 52 points after winning its third in a row. Stuart Skinner stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced between the pipes. Pittsburgh remains at 51 points after dropping its second straight.
