On Tuesday night, the Fairfield Mules Basketball team traveled to Olney for a non-conference matchup with the Olney (Richland County) Tigers. The Mules dominated the game, leading essentially from start to finish, before putting away the Tigers by a score of 49-25. Fairfield was led in scoring by Cruz Wells with 15 points and Owen Gruen with 13. The JV Mules also got the win over Richland County 38-36. The JV Mules were led in scoring by Michael Barner with 10 points. The Mules will be back in action on Friday night for a conference matchup at Carmi-White County.

On Tuesday night, the Fairfield Mules Wrestling squad was in action at the Mule Barn for a Tri-Match versus Centralia and Olney (Richland County). The Mules fell to Olney (Richland County). The Mules picked up a pinfall victory from Grant Jennette and a Decision victory from Jedd Wellen. Fairfield got the victory over Centralia 42-33. The Mules got Pinfall victories from Lane Witucki, Vance Vanway, and Braxton Marshel.

(St. Louis, MO) — Ten-time Gold Glove winning third baseman Nolan Arenado is heading to the desert. The St. Louis Cardinals traded Arenado to Arizona Diamondbacks yesterday in exchange for pitching prospect Jack Martinez. The Cards are also sending 31-million dollars to Arizona to help off-set Arenado’s contract. The eight-time All-Star waived his no-trade clause to facilitate the move.

(Pittsburgh, PA) — Mike Tomlin is stepping down as the coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Owner Art Rooney the second said Tomlin informed him of his decision in a meeting on Tuesday. He has coached the Steelers for 19 seasons. This comes after the team was blown out in the AFC Wild-Card round against the Houston Texans. Tomlin won Super Bowl 48 in his second season, becoming just the second African-American head coach to win a Super Bowl. He ends his tenure with a 201-126-and-2 career record. Tomlin also holds the NFL record for consecutive seasons without a losing record to start a career.

(Philadelphia, PA) — The Eagles are making a change at offensive coordinator. Head coach Nick Sirianni told the media on Tuesday that Kevin Patullo has been removed from the role. ESPN reports the team is still open to keeping the 44-year-old on the coaching staff. Patullo led a mediocre offense to just over 22 points per game during the regular season, which ranked 19th in the league. Philly scored only 19 points in its Wild Card loss to San Fran.

Los Angeles has fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman and offensive line coach Mike Devlin. The moves come after the Chargers’ offense struggled mightily in the team’s 16-3 loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Wild Card Round. The Chargers scored just one touchdown through two postseason games with Roman calling the offense. Devlin also joined the team ahead of the 2024 season after working in Baltimore.

(Philadelphia, PA) — T ]emple University Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Bill Courtney has died at the age of 55. The school made the announcement Tuesday morning, but no details about his cause of death were given. Courtney spent six seasons as an assistant coach with the Miami Hurricanes and briefly served a ‘Canes Head Coach after Jim Larranaga retired mid-season. His son, Bill Courtney Jr., currently works on new Canes Coach Jai Lucas’ staff. He’s taking time away from the team.
