BLACK DIAMOND CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET:
On Wednesday night, The Fairfield Mules and Lady Mules Wrestling teams were in action at the Black Diamond Conference Championship Meet at Johnston City. On the Boys side, the Mules lost to Johnston City 52-27. During the match Fairfield got Pinfall victories from Lane Witucki and Braxton Marshel and a 21-14 Decision victory from Jedd Wellen. The Mules also lost to Carmi 53-28. The Mules picked up Technical Fall victories from Carter Pool, 5-0, and Jedd Wellen, 21-4, while Vance Vanway and Grant Jennette both picked up Pinfall wins. Fairfield got the win over Goreville by a score of 65-11. The Mules picked up Pinfall victories from Jedd Wellen and Vance Vanway and a 16-0 Technical Fall win from Grant Jennette. On the Girls side, the Lady Mules defeated Johnston City 30-24. Addison Churchill picked up a Pinfall victory in the win.




Earning All-Conference honors for the Mules and Lady Mules were: Carter Poole (his 3rd consecutive year), Jedd Wellen, Remi Taylor, Addison Churchill, Macy McCulley, Brinna Fox-Cook, and Ashlyn Blevins.

The number-13 Illinois Fighting Illini are on a six-game winning streak after a 79-68 win over Northwestern at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Wildcats were within four points with under five minutes left in regulation before Illinois went on a 12-5 run to end the game. Keaton Wagler scored 22 points for the Illini, who improved to 5-and-1 in Big Ten play and 14-and-3 overall. Jayden Reid had 28 points off the bench in the losing effort. (East Rutherford, NJ) — The Giants have their next leader. According to ESPN, the G-Men are working to finalize an agreement to make John Harbaugh their next head coach. Warner said that the team is taking it “day by day” and that there are still multiple health checkpoints he must clear before he can return. The 29-year-old had his 21-day practice window opened Tuesday as he prepares to return from a fractured and dislocated right ankle that he suffered in Week Six. The 35-year-old split time between the Vikings and Steelers this season and finished with just 19 catches in 16 games. Thielen spent most of his time with the Vikings where he earned back-to-back Pro Bowl selections in 2017-and-18. He finished his career with almost 8,500 receiving yards to go with 65 total touchdowns.

(Jacksonville, FL) — The Jaguars aren’t giving up on their unicorn. General manager James Gladstone told the media on Wednesday that Travis Hunter will play on both sides of the ball next season. The receiver and cornerback suffered a knee injury which cut his rookie year short. Hunter finished with almost 30 catches for just under 300 receiving yards to go with 15 tackles and three pass breakups.

The class is headlined by Heisman-winning Alabama running back Mark Ingram and two dominant defensive tackles in Pitt’s Aaron Donald and Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh [[ ehn-DAHM-uh-kehn SOO ]]. The list of 18 total players that have been chosen for induction also includes Syracuse wide receiver Marvin Harrison, Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis [[ lore-in-eye-tis ]], Florida State wide receiver Peter Warrick, and Utah safety Eric Weddle. The four coaches selected for enshrinement were Jim Margraff, Gary Patterson, Chris Peterson and Ken Sparks.

(Undated) — The NBA is heading to Europe this week. The Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic will face off Thursday in Berlin, Germany before playing in London on Sunday. Thursday’s game will be the first ever regular season game played in Germany and only the third NBA game played in the country. The NBA returns to the United Kingdom Sunday for the first time since 2019.

(Charlotte, NC) — The Hornets are sending another jersey up to the rafters. Dell Curry’s number 30 will be retired when Charlotte hosts the Orlando Magic on March 19th. Curry won the 1994 Sixth Man of the Year and is the second-highest scorer in franchise history. He spent 10 of his 10 NBA seasons with the Hornets and currently serves as a team ambassador and television analyst. Curry joins Bobby Phills number 13 as the only two players to have their jersey retired.
