ILLINOIS UNVEILS 10-YEAR PLAN TO SUPPORT AGING POPULATION

The Illinois Department on Aging has released “EngAging Illinois,” a 10-year plan to help the state’s growing older population live with dignity and engagement. Developed with input from 15 agencies, a 25-member advisory council, and hundreds of residents, the plan focuses on creating livable communities, ensuring health at all ages, investing in caregivers, and making aging affordable.

With the over-65 population expected to rise 40% by 2035, the plan addresses disparities such as a 20-year gap in life expectancy between neighborhoods and rising poverty among older adults. A new EngAging Illinois Commission and Action Groups will oversee implementation and provide annual progress reports. The plan will be updated every three years.
