Margaret Ann “Marge” McGill Knight, 82, of McLeansboro, Illinois, went to be with Jesus on January 14, 2026 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
She was born January 8, 1944 to Charles H. and Ruth McGill. She married Dalton Knight on February 13, 1965. Upon their marriage, Marge and Dalton joined her dad raising black angus cattle and grain farming on Fair Acres Farm. They continued farming with their family until they retired in 2011. She hauled countless loads of grain to the Broughton and Dale grain elevators. She definitely kept the roads hot during harvest.
Margaret loved spending time with her family, going to her grandchildren’s events and following the Hamilton County Foxes. Marge and Dalton rarely missed a Foxes basketball game. Even after her first stroke in 2022 her family took her as often as they could. She enjoyed staying “on the go” as much as possible. Thanks to some wonderful caretakers, Nikki Lynch and Cande Mitchell, she went on many adventures, ate lots of ice cream, and had her weekly Friday hair appointment and lunch at Main Street with her bestie, Kay Woodrow.
Margaret was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Following her first stroke, she went with her family to Freedom Baptist Church and New Prospect Baptist Church. She also attended Hickory Hill Baptist Church before that.
Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and “Granny” to many.
Marge is survived by two daughters and one son: Tonyia (Mike) Neal, Teresa (Larry) Bayler, and Jamie (Stephanie) Knight. Grandchildren: Zack (Cady) Bayler, Shelby (Dylan) White, Faith, Nevaeh, and Andrew Knight. Great-grandchildren: Zoe and Zane Bayler and Baby White, due in March. She is also survived by two sisters, brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton, her parents, her mother and father in-law, brother James, brother and sister-in-laws and nephews.
Visitation for Margaret Ann “Marge” Mcgill Knight will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Pastor Steve Hamson and Pastor Jason Moore officiating. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service at Hickory Hill Cemetery near Broughton, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Marge’s favorite pastimes: East Side PTO, Foxesfans.net, or Hamilton County Foxes Athletics, and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
