NWS: MIDWEEK COOL-DOWN, COLDEST AIR AND SNOW CHANCE LATE WEEK

By Mark Wells Jan 20, 2026 | 12:00 PM

The National Weather Service says a noticeable shift in our weather pattern is on the way this week — with temperatures sliding by midweek, then turning much colder late in the week, along with renewed wintry weather concerns.

By tomorrow, Wednesday, highs are expected near 40 under a mix of clouds and sunshine. Winds turn northerly, signaling colder air moving in, though conditions should remain manageable through the day.

The bigger change arrives Thursday as a much colder air mass settles over the region. Cloud cover increases, highs struggle to reach the mid-20s, and brisk north to northeast winds will add to the chill.

Friday is expected to be the coldest day of the week, with afternoon temperatures only in the upper teens. The Weather Service says occasional snow showers are possible, and while confidence is still limited this far out, any snow could reduce visibility and create slick travel — especially during the morning and evening commute.

The weekend begins cold but quieter. Saturday brings more sunshine, but highs remain in the lower 20s with a lingering northwest breeze. And while Sunday details are still coming into focus, forecasters say the cold air looks likely to stick around.
