During the Webber Trojans win over Red Hill on Tuesday night, Nathaniel Marlow netted 35 points as the chase for 3,000 points continues. With his performance tonight, Marlow now has scored 2,773 points in his high school career, which places him 15th on the All-Time List in Illinois. Only six boys high school players in history have scored 3,000 career points in Illinois. Last night, his 35 point effort helped him leap-frog past former Trenton-Wesclin All Stater, Paul Lusk, and former Sesser-Valier standout, Scott Burzynski, and John Patterson of Williamsville.

(Champaign, IL) — The number-11 Illinois Fighting Illini go for their eighth win in a row when they host the Maryland Terrapins at State Farm Center tonight. The Illini are coming off a 77-67 win over Minnesota at home on Saturday. Illinois is 15-and-3 overall and 6-and-1 in Big Ten play. Tonight’s game tips off at 6:00pm and can be heard on WFIW-AM 1390 and FM 103.3 on the Illini Sports Radio Network. The pre-game show is set to begin at 5:00pm.

>>Former Cardinals OF Beltran Makes Hall Of Fame

(Undated) — A two-time Cardinals All-Star has made it to Cooperstown. Former St. Louis outfielder Carlos Beltran was elected into the Hall of Fame yesterday. Beltran only spent two of his 20 MLB seasons in St. Louis, but he made the NL All-Star team each year. He hit .282 with 56 home runs and 181 RBI’s in 296 games with the Cardinals.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago White Sox are shipping out one of their top players. According to ESPN, the White Sox are trading center fielder Luis Robert Jr. to the New York Mets in exchange for infielder Luisangel Acuna and right-handed prospect Truman Pauley. Robert struggled at the plate last season hitting a career-low .223, but did manage to steal a career-high 33 bases. Acuna hit .234 in 95 games for the Mets last year.

(Undated) — The Chargers are set to hire a former head coach as their new offensive playcaller. ESPN is reporting that Los Angeles is expected to hire former Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel as its new offensive coordinator barring a change of heart. McDaniel had reportedly withdrawn his name from consideration for the Cleveland Browns’ head coaching vacancy earlier in the day and has informed other teams that they are out of the running for his services. The 42-year-old compiled a 35-and-33 record during his four seasons leading Miami from 2022-to-2025. He previously served as OC of the San Francisco 49ers during the 2021 season.

(Lake Forest, IL) — The Chicago Bears are adding to their coaching staff. The team hired Boston College offensive coordinator Will Lawing to be an offensive assistant next season. Lawing has spent the last two seasons with BC. The Bears haven’t announced what Lawing’s specific role on offense will be next year.

(Undated) — The Packers parted ways with cornerback Trevon Diggs on Tuesday after less than a month. Diggs played in just two games with the Packers after he was claimed off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys on New Year’s Eve. Diggs had three years remaining on a five-year, 97-million dollar deal he signed in 2023, though no guaranteed money was left on the contract.

(Undated) — The final college football coaches poll has been released. To nobody’s surprise Indiana is ranked as the top team after winning the College Football Playoff national championship. Miami is number two after falling short in the title game. Ole Miss, Oregon and Georgia round out the remainder of the top five. Iowa is number nine and Illinois is 25th after not being included in the previous poll. Arizona and Tennessee are the two schools that dropped out of the top 25.

(Atlanta, GA) — Georgia Tech football is making a splash. Alberto Mendoza announced on Tuesday that he’s joining the Yellow Jackets next season. The quarterback is the brother of Fernando Mendoza, who helped guide Indiana to the National Championship for the first time in school history. Alberto went into the transfer portal a day after celebrating the title with his brother and teammates.

>>Warriors’ Butler Suffers Torn ACL

(San Francisco, CA) — The Warriors will be without a member of their starting lineup for the rest of the season. Golden State forward Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending torn right ACL during the third quarter of the team’s win over the Miami Heat on Monday. The team announced Tuesday that Butler will undergo surgery at a to-be-determined date. The 36-year-old finishes his first full season with the Warriors averaging 20 points through 38 games played. He was acquired by Golden State in a trade with Miami last February and agreed to a two-year, 111-million dollar extension at the time.

(New York, NY) — The Knicks are looking to get out of their current funk. According to ESPN, star guard Jalen Brunson called a players-only meeting following the team’s big loss to the Dallas Mavericks at Madison Square Garden. Brunson emphasized the need to find answers for their poor play among themselves and not to look to the coaching staff for solutions. New York has dropped nine of its last 11 games and will host the Brooklyn Nets Wednesday.

(Cooperstown, NY) —  Andruw Jones has been elected to Baseball Hall of Fame as a member of the 2026 class.  Jones, a ten-time Gold Glove winner and five-time All-Star with the Atlanta Braves received 78-percent, just over the needed 75-percent. The only other player to gain mention on more than half the ballots was second baseman Chase Utley.

That’s according to president Dave Dombrowski, who told the media on Tuesday that losing the Bo Bichette race to the rival Mets was a “gut punch.” The two-time All-Star shortstop signed a three-year, 126-million-dollar deal last week. Philly pivoted to keep its All-Star catcher JT Realmuto on a three-year, 45-million-dollar contract.

(Melbourne) — The Australian Open is heating up in Melbourne. Second-seeded Jannik Sinner is moving on to the second round after his opponent, Hugo Gaston, retired with an undisclosed injury following the second set. In second round action, top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz, 11th-seeded Daniil Medvedev and 19th-seeded American Tommy Paul each won and will be advancing to the third round. On the women’s side, top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka and third-seeded Coco Gauff were both victorious in straight sets and will also be advancing to the third round. Four-time major winner and 16th-seeded Naomi Osaka picked up a win in her first round match earlier in the day. The action continues early Wednesday morning.
