MILL SHOALS BOARD REVIEWS HYDRANT RESTITUTION, POLICING, RATE HIKE, AND WATER PROJECT

At the latest Mill Shoals Village Board meeting, trustees revisited an issue from December involving a resident who struck a village fire hydrant and has not made a payment since April 2025. The resident later told Clerk Tullis the remaining restitution would be paid in January, and the board decided to hold off on contacting the village attorney for possible legal action.

The board also discussed law enforcement. Policing with Enfield began in January, and Officer Smythe attended the January meeting to introduce himself. Concerns were raised about traffic and related issues along Route 45 and Burnt Prairie Road.

In other business, Mill Shoals residents will see garbage rates increase by one dollar starting April 1st.

Trustees also heard updates on water project funding. A water rate study—submitted to the Illinois Rural Water Association in November 2025—is underway and is expected to support grant efforts through the Delta Regional Authority. The board continues to contact the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Flood Control, and a meeting with the White County Engineer has not yet taken place. Superintendent Carter reported the Lead Service Line Inventory has been accepted by the Illinois EPA.

In the Treasurer’s Report, Treasurer Murphy said W-2s should be ready to mail soon.

And under old business, the board discussed a possible Meals on Wheels program. Trustee Smothers has created a questionnaire to gauge local interest, with flyers planned around town and information to be shared on social media. The board agreed to wait for community response before taking next steps.
