By Mark Wells Jan 23, 2026 | 12:58 PM

Glenn Allen Miller, 80, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. He was born on November 5, 1945 in Coles County, Illinois to his parents, George and Irene Miller, and had one brother, Carl Miller, who preceded him in death.

He was raised on a cattle and grain farm in Toledo, Illinois. He attended Neoga High School in Neoga, Illinois. He continued his education at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois, graduating in 1966 with a degree in the industrial arts.

Glenn married the love of his life, Karin Miller, on March 1, 1968 and they enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage together. The marriage was blessed by two children, De’Ann Kristine Kimmel (Joe) and Stephen Marc Allen Miller (Alisha), as well as twelve grandchildren: Kristin, Karrington, Kourtland, Katherine, Kooper, Kolton, and Kennedy Kimmel and Mackenzee, Whitley, Braxton, Colebie, and Shelbie Miller. He was also survived by a brother- in- law, Craig Miller (Connie), and two sisters- in- law Debbie Campbell and Nancy Miller. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews: Lisa Scott (Brian), Barbara Potts (Tory), Angi Nelson (Kevin), Doug Miller (Tara), Bruce Miller (Laura), Keely Roy (Kevin), and Brian Miller, along with several great nieces and nephews.

He was a family man and always enjoyed being surrounded by his loved ones.

He had a passion for helping others in any capacity he could, so naturally, he pursued a career in education. He was fondly known by his students as “Sarge.” He taught at the McLeansboro High School as the shop teacher and drove the school bus. He upheld his values boldly and was not afraid to keep his students accountable. He was proud to have an influence on the next generation of Americans and firmly believed in prioritizing faith, family, and patriotism. He passionately taught for 35 years, and retired in 2001.

When Glenn was not spending time with his family or helping at the school, he was in the fields, volunteering his hours to those in need, at the church, or tinkering and fixing anything he could get his hands on. He was a hardworking man who dedicated many hours to the church. He was baptized at the age of 13 and served as an elder in the McLeansboro Church of Christ and rarely ever missed a service. He loved the word of God and exemplified Jesus’ character through his servant’s attitude and patience. Because of his love for Christ and His children, Glenn also dedicated many hours in helping develop and help with the Little Egypt Christian Youth Camp in Dahlgren, IL. He loved attending their services in the summer time and hearing the children praise the Lord.

Glenn Miller was a one-of-a-kind man. He loved God, family, and his country. His life was a quiet testimony of faith lived through action. He worked hard, served humbly, and loved deeply—never seeking praise, only seeking to do what was right. Though he has laid down his tools, his example remains, guiding all who were blessed to know him.

Visitation for Glenn Miller will be held Monday, January 26, 2026 from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro, IL. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Jacob Gray officiating. Burial will follow the service at Marys Chapel Cemetery, McLeansboro.
