The Illinois Petroleum Resources Board and the Indiana Oil & Gas Association are teaming up to host the Illinois Basin Safety Awareness Day on Thursday, February 26th, at the 404 Seed Station in Carmi. This event builds on the annual Illinois Basin Celebration, expanding its focus to include a comprehensive oilfield safety awareness program alongside the traditional oilfield worker appreciation day. Open to all Illinois Basin oil and gas exploration and production industry professionals, the event will feature a complimentary catered breakfast and lunch. Attendees will also receive free Illinois Basin Proud hoodies, stocking caps, flags, and stickers.

The program starts at 10 a.m. with a safety presentation by CountryMark Safety Manager Ben Vaupel, followed by a team safety trivia competition led by Campbell Energy’s Alan Hatten. A group drone photo will be taken at 11:15 a.m., with lunch and a live line demonstration by Wayne-White Electrical Cooperative lineman and former oilfield worker Nathan Coston to follow.

Alternate afternoon sessions of the safety presentation and trivia competition will be available for those unable to attend in the morning. Additionally, careers presentations and oilfield equipment demonstrations will be offered to area high school students throughout the day, weather permitting.

Space is limited, so those interested are encouraged to reserve their spot by contacting IPRB Executive Director Seth Whitehead at 618-367-4751 or via email at seth@iprb.org.
