On Saturday, the Fairfield Mules Basketball team was in action at the Panther Showcase in Pinckneyville. The Mules came away with a 61-51 over Greenville. Fairfield’s Jake Easton was named MVP of the game.

HIGH SCHOOL BOYS WRESTLING:
On Saturday the Fairfield Mules Wrestling team competed at the IHSA Regionals at Robinson. Fairfield’s Carter Poole finished 4th at 106 lbs. after 2 pinfalls and losing a close decision in the 3rd place match. Poole will serve as an alternate for the IHSA Sectionals in Vandalia. Other Mules with victories Saturday were Vance Vanway-2 pinfalls, Grant Jennette-1 pinfall, and Hayden Felowitz with 3 pinfalls.

HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION CHEERLEADING:
The FCHS Competition Cheerleading squad competed Saturday at the IHSA Sectionals at Edwardsville. The FCHS squad finished 11th out of 17 teams and only the top 5 teams advanced to State.

The Chicago Bulls were destroyed by the Miami Heat in a 134-91 loss from Kaseya Center. The Bulls trailed by as many as 54 points in the fourth quarter of the loss. Coby White led Chicago with 16 points. The Bulls are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference at 24-and-26. They visit the Bucks tomorrow night. The Chicago Bulls added some depth to their frontcourt. The team traded for Sacramento Kings center Dario Saric yesterday. The Bulls sent Emanuel Miller to the Cavaliers in the three-team trade, and they also received second round picks in both 2027 and 2029. Saric is averaging one point per game in just five appearances this season.

The Indiana Pacers are hoping to stay hot. Indiana has a chance to extend its winning streak to three games when it hosts the Houston Rockets tonight from Indianapolis. The Pacers have won three of their last four games.

The St. Louis Blues were edged by that Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3 at Enterprise Center on Saturday. The Blues gave up a go-ahead goal late in the second period before Mason Marchment put the game away with an empty-netter in the final minute of regulation. Jimmy Snuggerud, Jonatan Berggren, and Tyler Tucker all lit the lamp in the losing effort. St. Louis is in last place in the Central Division with 49 points. The Blues visit Nashville tonight.

The Chicago Blackhawks are on a five-game losing streak following a 4-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets at United Center on Friday. The Hawks never led in the losing effort. Frank Nazar and Connor Bedard each scored for Chicago. The Blackhawks are tied for sixth place in the Central Division with 51 points. They host the Sharks tonight.

The number-ten Illinois Fighting Illini are on an 11-game winning streak after a 78-69 win over number-five Nebraska at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The Illini trailed by six at halftime before outscoring the Huskers 45-30 the rest of the way. Keaton Wagler poured in 28 points in the victory. Illinois improved to 10-and-1 in Big Ten play and 19-and-3 overall. The Illini host Northwestern on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, ESPN reports the Las Vegas Raiders intend to hire Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. That deal is expected to be finalized after the Super Bowl.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Colts are losing a member of their staff. According to ESPN, the Ravens are hiring Charlie Gelman as their game management coordinator and defensive assistant. Gelman had served three seasons as Indianapolis’ football analyst/game management assistant.

(Santa Clara, CA) — The 49ers are adding a former NFL head coach to run their defense next season. ESPN is reporting that San Francisco is hiring former Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris as their new defensive coordinator. Morris will replace Robert Saleh, who departed to become the head coach of the Tennessee Titans. The 49-year-old will also become the Niners’ fifth defensive coordinator in the past five years. He has previous DC stints with the Falcons in 2020 and the Los Angeles Rams from 2021-to-2023.

(Miami, FL) — A Packers reunion is taking place in Miami. ESPN reports Sean Duggan became the Dolphins new defensive coordinator on Sunday. He coached linebackers with Green Bay under DC Jeff Hafley, who was hired as the Fins’ head coach last month. Duggan came into the league as a defensive assistant on Hafley’s staff in 2024 after spending about a decade in the college coaching ranks.

(Undated) — The NBA has announced the 2026 All-Star Game reserves. Seven players from each conference were named as reserves and were chosen by NBA coaches without regard to position. Los Angeles Lakers superstar forward LeBron James headlines the group and will now be an All-Star for a 22nd straight year. Other Western Conference reserves are Portland’s Deni Avdija, Phoenix’s Devin Booker, Houston’s Kevin Durant, Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards, Oklahoma City’s Chet Holmgren and Denver’s Jamal Murray. The Eastern Conference reserves are Toronto’s Scottie Barnes, Detroit’s Jalen Duren, Atlanta’s Jalen Johnson, Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell, Miami’s Norman Powell, Indiana’s Pascal Siakam and New York’s Karl-Anthony Towns.

(Cleveland, OH) — The Cavaliers are shaking up their roster. The team traded De’Andre Hunter to the Kings in exchange for Dennis Schroder [[ SHROO-der ]] and Keon Ellis. The Bulls were also involved in the deal. Chicago got Dario Saric and a pair of second-round picks from Sacramento. ESPN says Cleveland will save about 50-million dollars in luxury tax penalties as a result of the trade. Hunter is averaging 14 points per game this season.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago White Sox are bolstering their pitching staff. The White Sox traded for Red Sox reliever Jordan Hicks yesterday. The Southsiders also received pitching prospect David Sandlin, two players-to-be-named later, and cash in the deal, and they sent pitching prospect Gage Ziehl back to Boston. Hicks had a down year in 2025, going 2-and-7 with a 6.95 ERA and two saves in 34 appearances between the Red Sox and the Giants.

The 34-year-old blasted 49 homers to go with 118 RBIs between the Diamondbacks and Mariners last season. Suarez spent seven years in Cincy before leaving in 2022.

(La Jolla, CA) — Justin Rose is celebrating another victory after finishing atop the leaderboard at the Farmers Insurance Open from Torrey Pines. Rose picked up his 13th career win after finishing 23 under par. He became the first wire-to-wire winner since Scottie Scheffler captured the CJ CUP Byron Nelson last year. Pierceson Coody, Ryo Hisatsune and Si Woo Kim finished tied for second at 16 under par. Defending champion Harris English was tied for 22nd at 10 under.

(Winston-Salem, NC) — The NASCAR Cup Series opener is taking place later than expected. The Cook Out Clash originally planned for Sunday was rescheduled to Wednesday due to snow at Bowman Gray Stadium. Winston-Salem received about 10 inches of snow while areas near Charlotte saw about a foot. NASCAR moved the preseason race to avoid problems with fans traveling to the track.
