The Fifth District Court of Appeals in Mount Vernon has upheld the pretrial detention of 25-year-old Hunter B. Futrill of Albion, who faces multiple felony sex abuse charges.
Futrill was charged on August 26, 2025, with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of grooming. The abuse charges allege sexual conduct with a victim between the ages of 13 and 17, while the grooming charge accuses Futrill of soliciting a 15-year-old for sexual conduct.
Prosecutors argued that releasing Futrill before trial would endanger both the victim and the broader community, citing allegations of ongoing abuse over several years.
The appellate justices agreed, rejecting Futrill’s arguments and upholding Circuit Judge Jerry Crisel’s decision to deny pretrial release.
Futrill remains in the White County Jail in Carmi, awaiting trial for Edwards County. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for February 6th.
