Firefighters from Wayne City, Fairfield, and surrounding departments responded to a structure fire Tuesday afternoon at 982 County Road 715 East north of Sims. The fire was first reported by a passerby shortly after 12:30 p.m.
According to Wayne City Fire Chief Scott Clark, crews arrived to find the home fully involved in flames. A full still alarm was called, bringing Fairfield City Fire Department with an engine and Fairfield Rural Fire Department with a tanker to the scene. Jefferson Fire and McLeansboro Fire Departments provided standby coverage at the Wayne City station in case of additional emergencies.
Firefighters and ambulance personnel remained on scene for approximately three hours battling the blaze. The home is considered a total loss.
The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation, but officials do not consider the incident suspicious at this time. No injuries were reported.
