HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL:
IHSA GIRLS REGIONAL PAIRINGS:
On Friday the IHSA announced the pairings for High School Girls Basketball Regionals. The FCHS Lady Mules received the #4 Seed in the Olney Sectional and will play at the Mt. Carmel Regional. Their first game will be next Monday, February 16th vs. the #5 Seed Salem.

The Wayne City-Cisne Lady Indians received the #13 in the North Clay Regional and will play this Saturday, February 14th vs. the #4 Seed Dietrich.

The Edwards County Lady Lions received the #2 Seed in the Webber Regional and will play their first game next Monday, February 16th at Webber vs. the Winner of Webber and Cowden.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS WRESTLING:
On Saturday, the FCHS Lady Mules Wrestling Team competed in their first ever IHSA Regional at Mt. Zion. The Lady Mules picked up several wins on the day and will have three members advancing to the IHSA Sectional next weekend. Macy McCulley picked up 2 wins; Kami Sager, 1 win, 3rd Place; Brinna Fox-Cook, 1 win, 4th Place; and Ashlynn Blevins, 1 win, 4th Place. Sager, Fox-Cook, and Blevins all advanced to Sectionals.

Pascal Siakam scored 18 points to lead the Pacers, while Jay Huff finished with 15. The Pacers are in last place in the Eastern Conference at 13-and-40. They visit the Knicks tomorrow night.

The Chicago Bulls are on a four-game losing streak following a 136-120 loss to the Denver Nuggets at United Center on Saturday. The Bulls were outscored 39-16 in the fourth quarter. Matas Buzelis scored 21 points in the losing effort. Chicago is in 11th place in the Eastern Conference at 24-and-29. The Bulls visit the Nets tonight.

(East Lansing, MI) — The number-six Illinois Fighting Illini had their 12-game winning streak snapped with an 85-82 overtime loss to number-ten Michigan State at Breslin Center on Saturday. Zvonimir Ivisic missed a game-tying shot at the buzzer. David Mirkovic scored 18 points in the losing effort, while Andrej Stojakovic chipped in with 17. Illinois fell to 11-and-2 in Big Ten play and 20-and-4 overall. The Illini host Wisconsin tomorrow night.

(Santa Clara, CA) — The Seahawks flexed their muscles on defense to win Super Bowl 60. The team silenced the Patriots 29-13 from Santa Clara. The team combined for six sacks including a pick-six as the Hawks won the Lombardi for the first time since 2014 and successfully rectified their mistake against the Pats in a Super Bowl 49 heartbreaker. Drake Maye threw two picks and lost a costly fumble for New England, which was appearing in a league-best 12th Super Bowl. In one of the most anticipated spots, the original cast of “Jurassic Park” reunited for Comcast’s Xfinity video service. It imagines what it would have been like had Xfinity been around to bring Jurassic Park’s systems back online. Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neil all reprised their roles using the magic of de-aging. Sabrina Carpenter was featured in a “rom-com” style commercial for Pringles potato chips where her beau was literally made of chips. Andy Samberg did a Neil Diamond impersonation for Hellman’s mayonnaise. NBC charged about eight-million-dollars for a 30-second commercial during Super Bowl 60.

(Lake Forest, IL) — The Chicago Bears have their new offensive coordinator. The team promoted Press Taylor to the position over the weekend. Taylor is taking over for Declan Doyle, who was hired away by the Ravens last month. Taylor was Chicago’s passing game coordinator in 2025 after spending three seasons as an offensive coordinator with the Jaguars.

(Atlanta, GA) — A veteran quarterback is going to hit free agency. ESPN reports the Falcons are expected to cut Kirk Cousins before the start of the new league year in March. The 37-year-old recently agreed to a restructured contract which would pay him almost 68-million dollars in guaranteed money if he stays beyond next month’s deadline. Cousins is still interested in playing, but TV could also be an option.

(Undated) — A pair of NFL teams are on the hunt for new quarterbacks. ESPN reports the Dolphins and Cardinals are seeking trade partners for their embattled gunslingers. Miami hopes to find a suitor for Tua Tagovailoa [[ TUNG-oh-vai-LO-uh ]] while Arizona wants to offload Kyler Murray. Both players have dealt with various injuries and sub-par play over the last several years.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Indianapolis Colts are trying to bring back Daniel Jones. Tom Pelissero is reporting that the Colts are going to begin contract negotiations with their star quarterback this week. The report mentioned that Indianapolis would like to have him back on a multi-year deal. Jones passed for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 13 games before tearing his Achilles tendon in 2025.

(Atlanta, GA) — The Falcons are dealing with a serious problem with one of their first-round picks in last year’s draft. Police say James Pearce Jr. was arrested in Florida on Saturday after a domestic dispute with Los Angeles Sparks forward Rickea Jackson. Authorities say Pearce was charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of stalking.

(Milan) — Team USA picked up its first two medals at the Winter Olympics on the second full day of competition Sunday. The U.S. took home the gold in the figure skating team event following a thrilling men’s free skate from “Quad God” Ilia Malinin. The 21-year-old nailed five quadruple jumps to earn the top score and give the U.S. a one-point win over Japan. Italy took home the bronze for just its third-ever medal in figure skating. The other gold came in the women’s downhill, but it was American Breezy Johnson who finished atop the podium. Italy now leads the way with a Games-best nine total medals, followed by Norway with six. Five more medal events are on tap today.

(Cortina) — US Olympic star Lindsey Vonn suffered a hard crash during the women’s downhill event on Sunday in Cortina. Vonn clipped a race gate and lost her balance before falling. A course hold was put into place and medical personnel rushed to attend to her. She was airlifted off the slope for further evaluation and underwent surgery for a fractured left leg. She was airlifted from the course just 13 seconds into her run. Vonn was competing despite a previouly torn ACL, bone bruise and meniscus damage.

(Scottsdale, AZ) — Chris Gotterup put together a ferocious comeback to win the WM Phoenix Open in Scottsdale. Gotterup birdied five of the final six holes to finish Sunday a seven-under 64 to tie Matsuyama atop the leaderboard at 16-under par through 72 holes. Gotterup then shot a birdie on 18 in the first extra hole, clinching his second Tour win of the season. Scottie Scheffler, Michael Thorbjornsen, Akshay Bhatia, Nicolai Højgaard and Si Woo Kim finished in a tie for third at 15-under.
