AREA SPORTS RESULTS FROM TUESDAY:
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL:
On Tuesday night, the Fairfield Mules Basketball team were on the road for a conference matchup with the Hamilton County Foxes. The Mules Freshman squad started the night with an impressive 38-14 victory and were led in scoring by Zach Vaughan with 13 points. In the JV matchup Fairfield fell just short against Hamilton County losing 39-37. Cooper Berg led the JV Mules in scoring with 15 points. In the Varsity contest, the Mules tied the game late only to fall to the Foxes 48-47 when Hamilton County sunk a free throw with 2.6 seconds left. Jake Easton led the Mules in scoring with 16 points. With the Mules suffering their first conference loss, their record now moves to 15-10 on the season and 6-1 in the BDC. Fairfield will be back in action Friday night at the Mule Barn versus Edwards County.

The Indiana Pacers snuck past the New York Knicks with a 137-134 overtime win from Madison Square Garden yesterday. The Pacers opened up OT with a 9-0 run and led the rest of the way. Pascal Siakam poured in 30 points in the victory, while Andrew Nembhard chipped in with 24. Indiana remains in last place in the Eastern Conference at 14-and-40. The Pacers visit the Nets tonight.

The number-seven Illinois Fighting Illini dropped their second game in a row with a 92-90 overtime loss against Wisconsin at State Farm Center. The Illini surrendered an 8-0 run to begin overtime and weren’t able to come back. Keaton Wagler finished with 34 points in the losing effort, while Tomislav Ivisic added 19. Illinois dropped to 11-and-3 in Big Ten action and 20-and-5 overall. The Illini host Indiana on Sunday.

(Milan) — A pair of St. Louis Blues players are in action during the Winter Olympics today. Philip Broberg and Team Sweden go up against Italy, while Dalibor Dvorsky and Team Slovakia play Finland. Jordan Binnington, Colton Parayko, and Pius Suter will all make the 2026 Olympics debut tomorrow.

(Milan) — Team USA took home five medals on Tuesday. The US began the day with a silver as Ben Ogden finished second in the cross-country skiing men’s sprint classic. The duo of Jacqueline Wiles and Paula Moltzan celebrated a bronze in the alpine skiing women’s team combined. Elsewhere, Korey Dropkin and Cory Thiesse made history after becoming the first Americans to medal in mixed curling doubles. Korey and Cory settled for silver after a loss to Sweden in the gold medal game. Team USA now has two gold, and seven total medals, while Norway leads with six gold and 12 medals at the Winter Games.

>>US Women’s Ice Hockey Dominates Canada

(Milan) — The US women’s ice hockey team blew out their biggest rival after shutting out Canada 5-0 in the preliminary round from Milan. Hannah Bilka scored a pair of goals for the Stars and Stripes. Hilary Knight added an assist and is now tied for the all-time women’s Olympic hockey record for points by an American. Team USA is now a perfect 4-and-0 at the Winter Games and clinched Group A with 12 points. Quarterfinals for women’s ice hockey begin on Friday.

>>Super Bowl Ratings Released

(Undated) — Ratings are out for Super Bowl 60. NBC announced that Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Patriots and Seahawks averaged just under 125 million viewers, making it the second-most-watched Super Bowl ever, only behind last year. While the number is high, it is down about three million viewers from last year. Bad Bunny’s halftime show averaged just over 128 million viewers, breaking NFL social media records.

>>Patriots Keeping Will Campbell At Left Tackle

(Foxboro, MA) — The Patriots are perfectly happy with their starting left tackle. Head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed on Tuesday that Will Campbell will retain his position next season. The fourth-overall pick in last year’s draft gave up 14 quarterback pressures in a Super Bowl 60 blowout loss to the Seahawks. It tied the most given up by an offensive lineman in a playoff game since 2018. Campbell was the only player on New England to avoid the media following his wretched performance.

>>Raiders Want To Keep Crosby Moving Forward

(Henderson, NV) — The Raiders are hoping to keep their five-time Pro Bowl pass rusher in Sin City. New Las Vegas head coach Klint Kubiak said during his introductory press conference Tuesday that he is hoping to keep defensive end Maxx Crosby with the organization moving forward. Kubiak said that he wants Crosby to be part of the team’s success and called it a no-brainer to be able to have the talented defensive presence leading one side of the ball. Raiders owner Mark Davis reiterated Kubiak’s comments, calling the 28-year-old a great Raider.

>>Rams RT Havenstein Announces Retirement

(Undated) — The Rams’ longest-tenured player is hanging up his cleats and shoulder pads. Los Angeles offensive tackle Rob Havenstein announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday after 11 seasons in the league. The Rams selected Havenstein in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft and he went on to spend his entire career with the franchise. The 33-year-old was limited to seven starts this past season due to an ankle injury. He started in all 148 games that he played in throughout his career and was a one-time Super Bowl champion. The Rams are expected to move forward with Warren McClendon Jr. as their next starter at right tackle.

>>Lakers’ James Will Not Continue All-NBA Streak

(Los Angeles, CA) — LeBron James will see his All-NBA streak come to an end this season. The superstar forward for the Los Angeles Lakers was ruled out of Tuesday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs and will not hit the necessary 65-game threshold to be eligible for the league’s annual awards. James has been named to an All-NBA team for a record 21 straight seasons. The 41-year-old is averaging 21.8 points through 34 games played this season.

>>Cardinals Trade Away Granillo

(St. Louis, MO) — The St. Louis Cardinals are parting ways with one of their relievers. The team sent right-handed Andre Granillo to the Washington Nationals yesterday. St. Louis received righty George Soriano to complete the deal. Granillo went 1-and-0 with a 4.71 ERA in one save last season, while Soriano was 2-and-0 with an 8.35 ERA and a save with Miami.

>>Cubs Sign SP Wright

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Cubs are adding some depth to their rotation. The team signed starting pitcher Kyle Wright to a minor league contract yesterday. The deal includes an invitation to Spring Training. Wright won 21 games while with Atlanta in 2022, but he hasn’t appeared in an MLB game since 2023.

>>White Sox Trade Bryan Hudson TO Mets

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago White Sox are parting ways with one of their relief pitchers. The Southsiders sent Bryan Hudson to the Mets yesterday. Chicago received cash considerations to complete the deal. Hudson spent last season with both Milwaukee on Chicago. He went 0-and-1 with a 4.80 ERA in 15 appearances last year.

>>Tigers Reunite With P Verlander

(Undated) — The Tigers are bringing back a franchise legend. Detroit signed Justin Verlander to a one-year, 13-million dollar contract on Tuesday. The three-time Cy Young Award winner spent the first 12-plus seasons of his career with the franchise and is top 10 in club history in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched. Verlander will turn 43 years old later this month.

>>Mets’ Francisco Lindor Facing Surgery

(Queens, NY) — The Mets need to make a critical decision on a star player. General manager David Stearns told the media on Tuesday that Francisco Lindor may need wrist surgery. If a procedure is done, a six-week recovery time is expected. Lindor has been dealing with the nagging injury “on and off” over the past couple of seasons. The five-time All-Star would be ready for Opening Day if surgery is needed.
