Charles E. Steury, 87, of Fairfield, passed away at 1:41pm on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Deaconess Illinois Medical Center in Marion, IL.
Charles was born on May 9, 1938, in Olney, IL, to William and Lena “Lucille” (Totten) Steury. His beloved first wife of 46 years, Garnet (Beaulieu) Steury, preceded him in death on August 4, 2003. He then married Shirley (Tyler) Koker Steury who also preceded him in death on May 11, 2025.
Charles retired after 36 years from being a service technician for GTE and Verizon. He was also a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam war.
Survivors include his children Karl Steury, Earl Steury and fiance’ Crissy Patterson, and Tina (Robert) Koker all of Fairfield, and Mark (Jonnie) Steury of Geff, IL, his daughter-in-law Janis Steury of Mt. Vernon, IL, eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives Garnet Steury and Shirley Steury, two sons Gary Steury and Edgar and wife Diana Steury, two grandchildren Charles Steury and Ian Steury, his brother John Steury, and two sisters Rose Cantrell and May Benson.
Funeral services for Charles Steury will be at 1pm on Monday, February 16th, at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial following in Maple Hill Cemetery. Full military rites will be provided by the Anthony Wayne Post #176 American Legion and the Wayne County Post #4535 VFW. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
