Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon announced Wednesday the passing of K9 Vader, who served the sheriff’s office for three years before succumbing to a serious illness despite extensive veterinary care and the dedicated support of his handler.

During his tenure, Vader played a vital role in the fight against illegal narcotics. He was deployed 314 times, leading to the seizure of 1,868.63 grams of illegal drugs, 63 pieces of drug paraphernalia, and $6,690 in cash.

Beyond his service, Vader was a cherished partner and companion to his handler, Lt. Jared Anthis. Their relationship was built on trust, loyalty, and countless hours of training. Sheriff Bacon praised Vader’s bravery, dedication, and the example he set for the department, emphasizing the gratitude felt by the entire Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for Vader’s years of service to the community.
