The National Weather Service reports that a return to seasonal temperatures is expected across Southern Illinois, with temperatures steadily rising through the weekend. Highs are forecasted to reach the 50s area-wide and push into the 60s early next week. These warmer conditions are anticipated to persist, as both the 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks indicate above-normal temperatures for the region.
The primary weather event will be a significant rain event this weekend. Current weather models suggest the heaviest rainfall will be concentrated in southern areas, with totals ranging from three-quarters of an inch in the far north to over two inches in some southern parts of the region.
These wetting rains, combined with the mild temperatures, are expected to help melt any lingering snow and ease the ongoing moderate drought conditions. The National Weather Service will continue to monitor the track and intensity of this weather system
