Former Marion County Coroner, 64-year-old Troy Cannon appeared before Judge Ericka Sanders at the Marion County courthouse on Wednesday morning as his case moves forward on seven felony counts of child abuse.

Cannon, who was arrested in June 2025, has been out of jail on strict GPS ankle monitor supervision after initially being denied release by Judge Stedelin. Judge Stedelin previously cited concerns for the safety of young women as the reason for denying Cannon’s release, but a subsequent decision allowed him to be freed under electronic monitoring.

During Wednesday’s proceedings, the state requested additional time to examine extensive evidence, including witness statements, victim accounts, video footage, and records from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Judge Sanders granted the state 60 to 90 days to complete its review of the evidence.

Cannon has requested a jury trial. He is scheduled to return to Marion County court for a pretrial hearing on March 11th at 10:00 a.m.
