A 43-year-old bicyclist from Carmi, James Easton, died Saturday evening after being struck by a vehicle near Ewing Road on Illinois State Highway 37 in Franklin County just before 6:30.
Emergency crews from the Ewing Northern Fire Department and AMR Ambulance responded to the scene, finding Easton with severe injuries. He was initially taken to Franklin Hospital and later transferred to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the driver and passenger in the vehicle were not injured. The incident remains under investigation by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
