Emergency crews rescued one person from inside a submerged vehicle Monday evening at the Gun Creek Boat Ramp, part of Rend Lake near the Buck and Bass Boat Ramp just north of State Route 154. The vehicle was found submerged head-on into the water by arriving units, and the cause of submersion remains unknown. The victim was initially taken by ambulance to a local hospital and was later airlifted to a higher-level care facility. The patient’s condition has not been confirmed.
Multiple response units, including the Mabas 68/45 dive sonar team, descended on the scene. The dive team was deployed for a period of time to determine whether there were additional victims, after which responders stood down once they confirmed no others were missing.
Authorities did not immediately provide details on the circumstances leading to the vehicle entering the water and says the incident is still under investigation.
