FAIRFIELD PARK BOARD DISAPPOINTED OVER SPLASH PAD GRANT REJECTION

During last Thursday night’s meeting of the Fairfield Park Board members shared their disappointment after learning that their latest grant application for funding the proposed Splash Pad was once again rejected.

Park Board president Jay Fyie reported that the park district currently has $520,000 set aside for the project, but total construction costs could reach as high as $1 million. As a result, additional fundraising will be necessary. One idea discussed was to move forward by constructing the base of the Splash Pad and adding features as more money becomes available.

In other business, Park Superintendent Chris Jenkins addressed concerns over a recent increase in goose deaths at the park. Jenkins said that according to game officials, the deaths appear to be part of a natural process and not the result of disease. He clarified that only several birds had been found dead, not the 20 to 30 that some rumors had suggested.

Jenkins also reported that all golf carts at the Fairfield golf course have been serviced and cleaned for the upcoming summer season. However, he noted that diminished play at the course last summer resulted in a missed payment. The park district received $104,000 from the golf course this year, down from $136,000 the previous year.
