WAYNE AND EDWARDS COUNTY STUDENTS URGED TO APPLY FOR ILLINOIS SHERIFF’S ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS

The Wayne and Edwards County Sheriff’s Departments is encouraging local students to apply for college scholarships offered by the Illinois Sheriff’s Association for the 2026–2027 academic year. Over $58,000 in scholarships will be awarded statewide to support students pursuing higher education, with funds usable for tuition, books, and fees at certified or accredited institutions—including online programs.

In addition to these statewide awards, both Wayne County Sheriff, Chris Otey and Edwards County Sheriff, Darby Boewe will present a $500 local scholarship to a deserving student.

There are no restrictions based on race, age, creed, color, sex, or national origin, but applicants must:

Be a permanent Illinois resident

Be enrolled full-time for the 2026–2027 school year (excluding summer session)

Applications are available….in Fairfield at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and in Edwards County…. at the Edwards County Sheriff’s Office, the Edwards County K–12 Guidance Office, Grayville High School Office, and online at www.ilsheriff.org/youth-2/.

Completed applications, including the required essay and documentation, must be returned to the Sheriff’s Office in the applicant’s county of permanent residence and postmarked by March 13th.
