By Mark Wells Feb 19, 2026 | 5:55 AM

The Board of Education of Edwards County Community Unit School District No. 1 will convene for a regular meeting tonight at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Science Room at West Salem Grade School.

Some of the items on the agenda include a “Spotlight” segment before addressing unfinished business, which includes several policy reviews such as fiscal and business management, revenue and investments, accounting and audits, equal employment opportunity, reporting of abused and neglected children, staff development, terms and conditions of employment and dismissal, and field trip policies.

In new business, the board will consider motions regarding fuel bids, approval of the 2025-2026 seniority lists, and field trips over 150 miles, including trips for the ECHS FFA to Springfield and the ECHS History Club to Marengo Cave. The board will also discuss the 2026-2027 school calendar, donations over $500 (notably to the Music Department), and conduct a first reading of curriculum resources.

Administrative reports will be presented by Superintendent David Cowger and principals from the district’s various schools. Topics include cafeteria updates, sales tax and scholarship trust fund reviews, bus bids, upcoming calendars, athletics, and personnel considerations such as resignations, employment, and changes of status.

A closed session is planned to address personnel matters and student discipline, with potential motions to be considered afterward. The meeting will conclude with open discussions before adjournment.
